At first, she thought it was just her husband playing tricks on her but the truth is far more disturbing. Her home security camera captured the whole event.

When Kelsey Smith arrived in the bedroom, she saw something scary.

She said that her dogs were barking like crazy and it was more than enough to put her on guard.

She saw a large pile of laundry on her 10-year-old son’s bed. When she uncovered what was under the pile, she revealed a 54-year-old stranger.

Smith then backed out of the room and hollered to her friend that she needed help. She asked the woman to leave but instead of complying fully, the woman resorted to violence. She picked up an ottoman and threw it to the homeowner before leaving the house.

Smith was not injured but was rattled.

She said that the safety of her house, or the illusion of it, has now been broken. She was grateful that her son was not at home at that time or it the situation could’ve been worse.

When asked why the door was open in the first place, she said she left it unlocked so that the contractors renovating parts of her house can have an easier time ingress and egress.

The event was captured via a home security feed installed in her son’s bedroom for medical emergencies. Smith can’t even imagine using the camera for security concerns such as this one.

The woman was arrested.

Terri Lyn Zinser was detained in the Multnomah County Jail with charges of burglary in the first degree and harassment.

She was, however, released shortly after by the District Attorney’s office. While people accused the District Attorney’s office of being “woke”, the office released a statement revealing other problems in the city.

Portland is gripped by a homelessness crisis.

Between 2020 and 2022, figures on homelessness spiked as much as 25% even with the city’s years-long emergency measures against the crisis.

The problem exacerbated other concerns such as drug addiction, petty crime, and the pandemic response during the COVID-19 era.

The Multnomah County District Attorney’s Office released a statement to explain its decision.

They said that they had concerns about whether they could proceed with the case at that time because due to the defendant’s history, she is unwilling to participate in treatment and the court’s inability to compel her to participate in treatment.

“In this particular case, the accused had recently spent months at the Oregon State Hospital during which time the staff there was unable to restore her ability to aid and assist her court appointed lawyer.” The DA’s office said.

They reiterated the importance of allocating resources to the state’s rehabilitation programs so that they can give the necessary help people like Zinser need.
